Holstein cows give the highest milk production in Romania and breeders who want to set up farms put this breed at the top of the list. However, in order to achieve performance, Holstein must be very well cared for and the food and the conditions in which it is kept are essential factors for the cow to give quality milk in large quantities. But perhaps the most important of all is genetics, which is actually “responsible” for the performance of the breed.

Production is not only influenced by genetics and this means that in a farm there must be very good specialists and especially a feed management that is excellent. We get a very good quality milk, ie the ratio between protein and fat must be very good. At the moment we have a milk with a fat content over 3, 8 and a protein content of 3, 3.

About Simmental cattlethey are known to have originated in the Simmel River area in western Switzerland and are one of the oldest breeds of cows in the world. At the same time, this breed has contributed to the creation of other European breeds, such as Fleckvieh (Germany), Montbeliarde (France) or Razzeta d’Oropa (Italy). Now, this breed is present, practically, all over the globe and we find it in countries such as Namibia, Australia, Brazil, Japan or Canada. The excellent ability to breed, to give milk and meat, as well as the high long-term fertility of Simmental cattle are typical characteristics. As a peculiarity of the breed is its coloration – white with reddish or yellowish spots, with precise delimitations between them. The legs, from the knees down, are always white and the muzzle is pink. On the head there is a characteristic dominant white pattern.

Calves are very healthy due to the milk that the cow can produce, they gain a lot of weight in a short time. In addition, the main economic advantage of the species is that the age at which this breed can become pregnant is 2 years and can produce up to 13 calves.
